Welcome to Shone Farm Winery

Santa Rosa Junior College’s Shone Farm Winery was founded in 2008 and operates under the auspices of the Shone Farm Foundation, an auxiliary organization of the College. Located in the Warren G. Dutton Jr. Agricultural Pavilion, the winery utilizes state-of-the-art equipment and winemaking procedures to ensure the production of premium wines indicative of the Russian River appellation. The majority of the wines are produced from the estate grown grapes of Shone Farm. The Shone Farm Winery is committed to quality and all wines must pass a rigorous review by a professional tasting panel before being released for sale. The wines are now available for tasting at the Wineyard Tasting Room at 1305 Cleveland Avenue in Santa Rosa.

Hands-on Student Involvement

Chris Wills, formerly of Korbel and Lake Sonoma Winery, is the winemaker for Shone Farm Winery. Chris is also a faculty member in the SRJC Wine Studies Program and involves his student in all phases of the winemaking and marketing process. Students in the program have the opportunity to be involved in the harvest, work on the crush pad, and assist during fermentation and all the other technical aspects of wine making that follow. Business-oriented students are involved with all aspects of the marketing and sale of Shone Farm wine, including label design, production of promotional materials, and experience with both direct sales and sales through a wine broker.

Shone Farm has 70 acres of grapes that are sold to several Sonoma County premium wineries. In addition to commercial use, the vineyard also provides a venue for instruction. Students in the Viticulture Program spend time in the vineyard involved in various tasks; monitoring for pests and diseases, performing canopy management assessments, making crop projections for each commercial block of grapes, and pruning selected blocks.
